New Door County Fine-Art Photo Book Now Available

The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) is excited to announce the release of their Capture Door County fine art photography book, a 144 page book featuring beautiful photography of Door County. The hard-bound coffee table book is the result of the popular Capture Door County photo contest, which the Door County tourism organization started back in January.

More than 10,000 photos were entered into the photo contest. From those 10,000 photos, CaptureDoorCounty.com contest users voted for their top choices and the most popular images rose to the top. In total, 176 photographs made it into the Capture Door County book.

“We are thrilled with how the book turned out,” said Jon Jarosh, the DCVB’s director of communications & PR and administrator of the Capture Door County contest. “There were some incredible photos submitted, and the 1,700 plus users who voted more than 54,000 times for their favorites were instrumental in shaping what the finished book looks like,” he said.

The keepsake Door County photo book is now available for sale at CaptureDoorCounty.com or in person at the Door County Visitor Bureau Welcome Center, 1015 Green Bay Road in Sturgeon Bay. Area retailers also have the opportunity to sell the book at their own stores, with wholesale order information available through the Door County Visitor Bureau.

Jarosh believes the photo book will be a popular souvenir among Door County visitors next summer. The book may also be available at various retail locations throughout the Midwest next year, and feels it is a great representation of the county’s scenic attributes.

While the photo submission and voting deadline for the Capture Door County book has concluded, the Capture Door County photo contest, which is in search of the best of Door County in photography, will continue next year. Some exciting new features and contest angles will be announced in 2014, and the photo of the day selection as well as monthly photo challenges will also continue. The current December photo challenge theme is Holidays: Door County Style.

“Even though the book portion of our Capture Door County photo contest is now over, we have some exciting new contest opportunities we’re working on for next year for Capture Door County,” Jarosh said. “And our popular monthly photo challenges, which have seen nearly 3,000 photos entered and have generated 350,000 challenge votes this year, will also continue,” he said.

Participation in the Capture Door County photo contest is free and open to both visitors and residents. Users are not required to submit their own photos in order to view or vote for their favorites.

Jarosh said the Capture Door County program has created an articulate online community of both photography enthusiasts and people that love Door County.

“The exchange of comments and ideas on the site has certainly surpassed expectations,” Jarosh said.
