New Emergency Management Director Hired

Joseph Saelens was hired as the County of Door’s new Emergency Management Director, effective Nov. 20. Saelens replaces Dan Kane, who left earlier this year.

The change in leadership also comes with a change in the structure of the department. The county’s Emergency Management department will now move into the Emergency Services building, and work under the leadership of Emergency Services Director Aaron LeClair.

Saelens has an extensive background in emergency management and is poised to take on the challenges of overseeing emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in Door County, LeClair said in a statement.

“His calming personality, coupled with his strategic planning skills, will contribute significantly to Door County’s emergency management efforts,” LeClair said.

In his new role, Saelens will conduct comprehensive risk assessments, ensure the county’s  compliance with state and federal grants, and engage in community outreach to educate residents about emergency preparedness.
