Look for new events at this year’s Roofing of the Goats celebration in Sister Bay.
The day will start with the Roofing of the Goats Parade through Sister Bay at 10:30 am, after which the goats will climb to their perch on the sod roof of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant and Butik. The parade will feature the first Grand Goat Marshal, Lars Johnson, with assistance from Rolf Johnson.
Then more fun will kick off next door at Stabbur, including a Swedish pancake-eating contest, live music and kids’ games. Plus, this year’s festival will feature the first stein-lifting contest (you’ll have to be there to see how this works), a goat meet-and-greet and fun throughout Sister Bay at Husby’s and Door County Creamery.
The goats have been climbing to the roof of Al’s since Wink Larson put one on the new sod roof in 1973.
Parade-goers should leave their dogs at home because the goats are skittish. The parade starts at Mill Road and runs to Al Johnson’s, so the highway will be closed to all motorized traffic 10-11:15 am.
