New Miller Exhibit Highlights Abstract Art

On Jan. 16, the Miller Art Museum in downtown Sturgeon Bay will unveil a new abstract-art exhibition. From Deep Within: Meditations of Wisconsin Abstractions will feature the work of Marjorie Mau of Green Bay, Cristian Andersson of Appleton and Alyssa Krause of Milwaukee.

Seven new works by Mau contemplate the compressed spaces and stacked rock formations of the Niagara Escarpment. Andersson’s selections from his Symphonic Series interpret the music of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho through wildly colorful, large-scale oil paintings in which he assigns visual characteristics to musical instruments. Krause’s abstract botanical paintings, with their luscious tropical colors, modify natural debris and create arrangements that make viewers question what they see.

The museum is open by appointment. All visitors must wear a face covering and maintain physical distance. Make reservations by calling the administrative office at 920.746.0707 Monday – Friday, 10 am – 5 pm. Learn more at
