New Mushroom Club Hosts Mushroom Day

A group of mushroom enthusiasts has formed the Door Peninsula Mushroom Club to celebrate mycology (the study of fungi), provide education, and promote mushroom safety and sustainability, community and connections with nature.

The club’s first Mushroom Day will take place May 6, 1-3 pm, at Crossroads at Big Creek’s Collins Learning Center, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. Members will provide information on safe mushroom foraging, indoor and outdoor fungi cultivation, artistic endeavors, and how to get involved with this new club.

Charlotte Lukes will present a 30-minute program on safe mushroom foraging, including photos of the more common edibles and poisonous species in the county, beginning at 1:30 pm.
