New Owners for Uncle Tom’s in Ellison Bay

Uncle Tom’s Candy, the iconic candy store located in the old Newport School House in Ellison Bay, and previously owned by Heather Laughlin, was sold to Rebecca Whipple and Ryan Mueller, both formerly of Milwaukee.

Whipple and Mueller moved to Ellison Bay in late November 2021, and have been working with Laughlin to learn the recipes and transition the business. Uncle Tom’s will remain in Ellison Bay and Mueller and Whipple intend to stay loyal to the old recipes while expanding to a year-round business, featuring additional seasonal and holiday specials.

Rebecca Whipple and Ryan Mueller are the new owners of Uncle Tom’s candy store in Ellison Bay. Submitted.

Uncle Tom’s famous candies and pancake mixes will remain homemade and this year’s Valentine’s Day specials will include a Doubly Special Valentine’s Gift Bag featuring a half pound of brittle and a bark, as well as gift boxes of the new flavor for February – Strawberries & Cream.

Uncle Tom’s will be open for the 32nd annual Candlelight Ski/Hike/Snowshoe event at Newport State Park on Feb 12. Stop in, warm up and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or hot apple cider and sample some brittle and bark.
