NEW PLANETARIUM AT ASTRONOMY CAMPUS

A viewing night and grand reopening will mark the installation of the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society’s (DPAS, doorastronomy.org) new planetarium April 30, 8 pm, at the Crossroads Astronomy Campus, 2200 Utah St. in Sturgeon Bay.

In 2019, the DPAS board voted to purchase a new digital planetarium courtesy of a generous bequest from the late Dr. Ray Stonecipher. Since the Stonecipher Astronomy Center was built, the DPAS has had a planetarium, but the first was rather primitive – an inflatable dome with a globe inside. The second planetarium had computer-generated images and was state of the art at the time, but it has begun to show wear.

In addition to planetarium shows, DPAS members will give telescope and green laser tours of the night sky – weather permitting – in the StarGarden.
