New Southern Door Teachers Tour District by Bus

The bus tour of the school district is an annual event for teachers who are new to Southern Door. This year, bus driver Jen Karsten drove the new teachers and mentors in a new-to-the-district Air Ride school bus so that they could share the bus experience their students have, get an idea of the square mileage of the district and learn tidbits about each of its townships. 

The bus tour starts at the school; moves through Brussels, Union, Gardner, Little Sturgeon, the Town of Sturgeon Bay, Clay Banks, Forestville and Maplewood; then returns to the school. 

Special thanks to Mary Spude, who generously provides a treat to the new staff members each year after boarding the bus to welcome the new “class.”

And, as the tour passes through Forestville, the teachers learn how Cherry Delight began in the childhood kitchen of 4K teacher Jenny (Johnson) Vogel and has now grown into a business that sells its products internationally. Special thanks to Jennifer at Cherry Delight for welcoming the group with chocolate-covered cherries. 

The new teachers are asked to share what stands out to them after they’ve taken the bus tour. Year after year, the responses follow three themes: community, connection, pride. Welcome, Class of 2020-21!
