The city’s zoning code now includes a provision to construct efficiency or studio apartments. Prior to the change, the city code did not allow multiple-family housing to have a floor area per dwelling unit of fewer than 500 square feet with one bedroom.
The Sturgeon Bay Common Council gave final approval April 18 to an ordinance to create a minimum floor area of 450 square feet in all zoning districts where multiple-family dwellings would be allowed.
The impetus for the change is the planned, two-story music venue and school to be known as Muse near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Jefferson Street, which will have 11 studio apartments on the second floor.
