Newport State Park will set up separate routes for skiers and trekkers during its 34th annual Candlelight Ski/Hike/Snowshoe 5:30-8 pm Saturday, Feb. 10, starting at the picnic area parking lot (Lot 3).
The event will take place even if there’s inadequate snow for skiing.
Newport Wilderness Society volunteers will place hundreds of candles, guiding participants down the wooded trails. Bringing a headlamp helps when putting on gear and returning to the car. A bonfire, hot cocoa and cookies await participants at the end of the trail.
Though the event is free, a Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required.
