Newport State Park Celebrates Earth Day and Dark Sky Week

Come celebrate Earth Day (April 22) at Newport State Park at their Earth Day Work Day from 9 am to 12 pm. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. It’s a great family opportunity, and bring work gloves, loppers or pruners if you have them. Meet at the shop/maintenance building. Lunch will be provided. Call 920.854.2500 for more information.

Newport is also celebrating International Dark Sky Week on April 25 at 7 pm. Newport State Park is one of the darkest places on the peninsula. They will celebrate with a presentation by John Beck from Door Peninsula Astronomical Society. He will present, “Constellations: What They Are; How We Find Them; How We Use Them.” There will be a sky viewing after the presentation, weather permitting. All are welcome to bring binoculars and telescopes. Meet in the Nature Center, Lot 1, then move to Lot 3 for viewing. The program is free, but a state park sticker for your vehicle is required.
