Newport’s Candlelight Ski/Hike/Snowshoe Event Feb. 8

Newport State Park will hold its 30th annual candlelight ski/hike/snowshoe event Feb. 8, 5:30-8:30 pm, when a portion of the park’s trail will come alive with candlelight to guide skiers, hikers and snowshoers into a glowing, magical winter wonderland.

Participants can start at the picnic-area parking lot (Lot 3) anytime between 5:30 and 8:30 pm. At the end of the lit trail, the shelter building will have an outdoor bonfire, a lit indoor fireplace and refreshments. Grills will be available for those who want to take along the makings for a picnic supper or marshmallow roast.

The event is free, but a Wisconsin State Park vehicle-admission sticker is required. To volunteer to help, call the park office at 920.854.2500 prior to the event.

This event will be held with or without adequate skiing snow. Only extreme temperatures or unsafe trail conditions will cause a cancellation.
