Sturgeon Bay, though not an exceedingly large place as yet, can boast of having three harness shops in her midst, with ample room for a few more to follow. Who will be the first lucky man to grasp this golden opportunity and embark in such an enterprise here?

It seems there is considerable kicking among our farmers because our local cheesemakers pay only forty-five cents a hundred for milk, while factories in other parts pay eighty and eighty-five cents per hundred. There is strong talk of erecting another factory in the Clay Banks vicinity, and it is not at all unlikely that there will be opposition by next spring.

Street Paving Mass Meeting.

All the tax payers of Sturgeon Bay are requested to attend a mass meeting at the Opera House, this Saturday evening, at 7:30, to discuss the advisability of paving cedar street with brick. It is a matter of vital importance to every tax payer in the city, particularly to the average property holder whose property is taxed nearly to its full value, and a large gathering is therefore particularly desirable.

The police on this side of the bay have been annoyed the past week with a number of night loungers. The men are employees of the stone quarries and come to town to get “tanked-up” then they look for a night’s lodging in the lock-up.

High School Plans Let

Smith and Reynolds, architects of Manitowoc, were awarded the designing and supervising of the large new high school to be constructed at Institute. There was a field of six architects from all parts of the state who submitted plans.

The school will be a fine type of building and modern in every respect. The cost will aggregate approximately $90,000, and the structure will be the equal of any in this section of the state.

The junior member of the firm of architects, Chas. C. Reynolds, is a former Sturgeon Bay boy.

SAWYER, CHICAGO WINS GOLF HONORS

Don Sawyer, Chicago, defeated Owen Carl, St. Louis, for the golf championship of Door county in the sixth annual tournament at the Peninsula State Park links last Friday. Sawyer, who was 1929 champion, and Carl, last year’s runner-up, played exceptionally well and it required 36 holes to decide the match which Sawyer won 1-up. Carl won the play-off for medalist honors.

The tournament was the largest in the history of the course and there was a gallery of about 125 people watching the play.

BAILEYS HARBOR DEDICATES HALL

Formal dedication of the new Baileys Harbor town hall and McArdle library has been fully arranged and will take place Sunday, August 21, with Atty. W.E. Wagener as honorary chairman.

Landscaping of the grounds is nearing completion, and will be completed in time for the dedication. The natural beauty of the native stone used in the building is enhanced by the fresh green of the newly-grown lawn surrounding the building and shrubbery and other bits of landscaping are being placed under the direction of Jens Jensen, well known architect of Ellison Bay.
