    • State Representative Garey Bies (R-Sister Bay) will receive two awards for his legislative efforts concerning public access television and seatbelts.

    • The Village of Egg Harbor will discuss parking ordinance changes. There will be a public hearing April 12 at 6 pm at the Paul J. Bertschinger Community Center to take comments on the recommendations from the Plan Commission.

    • The Village of Egg Harbor received a $25,000 Wisconsin Coastal Management Program grant to assist in the building of a stormwater filtration basin in the new Egg Harbor Marina parking lot.

    • The Door County Parks committee will consider a request to have dogs banned from all county parks at its meeting April 7. At the committee’s March meeting a citizen requested that all dogs be banned from county parks because she is allergic to them.

  • Feb. 22 – March 4

    • Last year’s snow removal expenses blew the county’s budget out of the water. The county had budgeted $445,000 for snow removal, but had to spend $555,999 thanks to heavy snow in early 2009.

    • The Village of Sister Bay will discuss a proposal to purchase the Al Johnson’s Boutique property in downtown Sister Bay at its Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, March 9.

  • Feb. 5 – 19

    • Crystal Burke of Sevastopol High School won the 2010 Miss Door County Crown at the Southern Door Community Auditorium Feb. 12. Six young women were awarded $12,500 in scholarship money at the event.

    • The League of Women Voters of Door County is sponsoring a candidate forum for the four candidates running for Baileys Harbor Town Supervisor. The forum is Tuesday, March 2 from 7 – 9 pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall.

  • Jan. 22 – Feb. 5

    • The Door County Tourism Zone Commission decided to take six lodging properties to small claims court for non-compliance with the countywide room tax at its Jan.

    • Sturgeon Bay mayoral candidate John Wade will host an Open House at Applebees restaurant in Sturgeon Bay Feb. 11 from 6 – 9 pm. Wade said the event will be an opportunity for citizens to meet and discuss issues in an informal town hall setting.

  • January 8 – 22

    • Dave Hutchison (R – Dyckesville) announced that he will run against Democrat Montgomery “Monk” Elmer for the state Senate seat being vacated by Alan Lasee, who is retiring after more than 30 years in the position.

    • The Door Community Auditorium will host a benefit concert Saturday, January 23 at 7 pm for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Doors will open at 6 pm.

    • Foreclosures increased 71 percent in Door County between 2007 and 2009, from 87 to 149, the largest percentage increase in Northeast Wisconsin. • In November, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources adopted revisions to Shoreland Development Rules to better protect lakes and rivers while allowing property owners more flexibility with their land.

    • The Door County YMCA and Ridges Sanctuary have partnered to create the “No Family Left Inside” program this winter. The series is designed to provide outdoor experiences for parents and children to explore Door County.

  • Dec. 13 – 23

    • Liberty Grove officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the newly renovated town hall on Old Stage Road Dec. 16. With a handful of board members and employees in attendance, longtime clerk Bud Kalms and former Chairman Bill Casey cut the ribbon, opening the doors to the new hall.

    • The joint Egg Harbor Town and Village meeting to discuss the Egg Harbor Fire Department and Fire Station Number 1, originally scheduled for Dec. 9, was cancelled due to a snowstorm.
