When Heather Lhost, now Heather Olson, graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1992, she was undecided about her future. She had taken business related courses, she was Girls Senior Athlete of the Year, and she liked Northern Door – her roots in the county extend back many generations: her great, great, great grandparents, Thomas and Kirsten Goodletson, settled in Ephraim in the 1850s in the now historic Goodletson Cabin.

Sturgeon Bay’s west side will sport one less empty storefront this spring, after the owners of Nor Door Sport & Cyclery expand their business. For the last 28 years, the Merkel family has operated Nor Door Sport & Cyclery in Fish Creek.

• Segway the Door Tours will begin Sturgeon Bay tours April 22. In addition to four tours in Northern Door, 2011 brings three tours to the Sturgeon Bay area.

The Wellness Center of Door County continues to gain ground on their facility expansion project. Phase I of the project is well underway with the second floor of the new structure being added recently.

• Attorney Luca Lopes Fagundes has opened a law office in Sturgeon Bay. Fagundes, who speaks fluent English, Spanish, and Portuguese, will be concentrating in the areas of immigration, criminal defense, family law, and business law.

Getting high-speed wireless in many parts of the peninsula is now easier than ever. DoorFi hotspots from Northeast Wisconsin Wireless Internet Service (NEWWIS) are now available in certain areas around Door County.

“On my first eye mission trip,” Dr. Eric Paulsen recalled, “I came across a patient who was 64.” The typical procedure was that he would do the examination, write the prescription for glasses, and then the patient would move to the next station.

On Dec. 1 from 10:30 – 11:30 am, the Northern Door County YMCA in Fish Creek will host their 1st monthly Wisdom Wednesday meeting. Entitled “No Cost and Low Cost Publicity: How Your Non-Profit, Service Organization, Church, or School Can Get FREE Publicity,” the presentation will feature representatives from both print and radio.

The old Path of Pines Campground in Fish Creek has new owners. Three Northern Door friends and business owners came together this summer to buy the property out of foreclosure and re-open the facility as the Fish Creek Campground.

• The Peninsula Preschool of Ephraim is proud to announce that lead teacher, Leslie Leline, will be presented with the “Wisconsin Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) will resume offering monthly office hours in Northern Door County for new and existing business owners, providing business counseling and entrepreneurial services.

The Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) and the Northeast Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (NEWAHEC) will once again collaborate this fall to offer nursing assistant training to high school juniors and seniors from Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg Casco, and Southern Door High Schools during the 2010-11 academic year.
