  • Spotted Wing Drosophila confirmed in the county

    Fruit flies are a common autumn pest in gardens and kitchens, but this year there’s a new species swarming the peninsula. “These two people noticed there were a lot of flies around, and some of the fruit had little moving critters – which are actually the larvae in the fruit,” said Dean Volenberg, Door County Extension agriculture agent.

    Mojo Rosa’s in Egg Harbor was chosen by Founders Brewing, Inc. to be the first establishment in Wisconsin to tap the seasonal Breakfast Stout beer. On Sept. 21 at 5 pm, Breakfast Stout will be tapped as a precursor to AleFest, beginning on Sept. 22.

    On Sept. 28, Cellcom will offer iPhone 5, the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, to its customers. Cellcom is a wireless company that provides nationwide service through nearly 80 retail and agent locations throughout Wisconsin and Michigan, including offices in Sister Bay and Sturgeon Bay.

    The Board of Directors of Egg Harbor Business Association announce the hiring of Amy Paul as the Marketing & Visitor Center Coordinator. Paul, who began duties on Sept. 10, brings with her seven years experience as marketing coordinator at Marine Travelift, Inc.

    Wisconsin residents that register to vote in the upcoming election now have more ways to prove their residency in the upcoming election. Now they’re able to use electronic documents to prove they’re Wisconsin residents.

    Wolves may adorn the Wisconsin Endangered Resources license plate, but they no longer get much protection off state roads. Wisconsin’s first wolf hunting season begins in October, marking the animals’ transition from an endangered species to wild game.
