NEWWIS is now Door County Broadband

Door County’s broadband future grew more promising April 1.

That’s when Door County Broadband LLC (DCB) purchased NEWWIS Online Door County, the Fish Creek company founded by Rick and Joan Gordon that has provided Internet service to Door County businesses and residents since 1994.

The new company is owned by Kevin Voss, Jim Matson and longtime NEWWIS employee Nate Bell.

“High-speed Internet access is becoming more and more important every day, for business and tourism,” said Voss, the new company’s president. “Our goal is to allow people to come up here and have the same level of service they can get back home.”

Voss said that won’t happen overnight, as their immediate focus is improving the existing NEWWIS infrastructure.

“The Gordons have spent 23 years building this business and serving the people of Door County,” he said. “We’re excited to build on what they created. We’re fortunate to not only retain Nate and his expertise, but to bring him on as a partner as we grow this business.”

Bell, who has spearheaded NEWWIS expansion and infrastructure enhancements as its network administrator for 15 years, serves as the new company’s chief technology officer. Co-owner Matson is also the owner of Cal-Marine in Sister Bay.

The company will continue to operate out of its Juddville offices.
