Nine Complete Leadership Door County Program

Nine committed individuals representing Door County government, businesses and nonprofit organizations completed the 2017-2018 Leadership Door County program. On June 13, a commencement ceremony was held at Crossroads at Big Creek, marking the end of the 10-month program. Leadership Door County President Dawn VandeVoort also presented the Leaders Among Us Award to Gretchen Schmelzer, graduate of the 2013-2014 class.

Throughout the year, class participants learn about a wide variety of topics pertinent to life on the peninsula. They meet with leaders from various sectors of the community to hear about issues impacting the county and get first-hand experience in many of those areas.

Each year they complete a class project. This year’s class project is Leadership Landing: Community Kayak Launch and Educational Platform at Crossroads at Big Creek.

Members of the 2016-2017 Leadership Door County class are Candis Dart, Door County Partnership for Children and Families; Erin Hanson, Soil and Water Conservation Department; Jaime Jorns, Write On, Door County; Amanda Kohler, Nicolet National Bank; Kacie Mueller, Door County Community Foundation; Beth Resch, Door County Medical Center; Heather Thyrion, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore; and Sarah Traeger, Door County Medical Center.
