Northern Door Hunter Education Program

The 2008 Hunter Education Program at the Peninsula Gun Club will be held this spring. The course is being held for northern Door County residents.

Rick Ostrowski, a Wisconsin DNR Certified Hunter Education Instructor, invites everyone interested in hunting and recreational shooting to enroll in a Wisconsin Hunter Education course. Classes will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on March 27, 28, April 10, 11, as well as from 8 am – noon on March 29 and April 12, at the Peninsula Gun Club. Door County State Parks and the Peninsula Gun Club are sponsoring the class.

This course will be limited to students who will be at least 12 years old on or before December 31, 2008. Persons born on or after January 1, 1973 must have a Hunter Education Certification to purchase any type of Wisconsin hunting license, including bow hunting.

Persons successfully completing the course will receive a distinctive embroidered emblem and a hunter education graduate certificate. This certificate is a lifetime certificate required for hunting in many states and Canadian provinces. Young students certified will also be able to hunt and use firearms without being accompanied by a parent or guardian at age fourteen instead of sixteen.

Classes will cover responsibilities of hunter, firearms safety in the home and afield, knowledge of firearms and hunting equipment, bow hunting, wildlife identification and management, marksmanship, outdoor skills and law enforcement.

Advance registration is required. Interested persons can call Kevin Bauldry at 920.868.9814 to register for the course. The cost for the course is $10 per person.
