Northwestern’s Stephen Alltop To Lecture on Puccini July 6

Dr. Stephen Alltop, who has conducted often at Peninsula Music Festival, will lecture about opera composer Giacomo Puccini on July 6 at 7 pm at Church of the Atonement in Fish Creek. The title of his talk is “Giacomo Puccini: Lion of the Opera.”

Alltop, a senior lecturer at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, is director of music for Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern, conducts the Baroque Music Ensemble, and teaches conducting, harpsichord and oratorio. While in residence in Door County, he will be the organist July 9 for services at Church of the Atonement.

Also a harpsichordist, he has performed with Boston’s Handel and Haydn Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Bach Project, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Music of the Baroque, and the Omaha Symphony. He is music director for the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the Green Lake Choral Institute, and the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted more than 100 oratorio and operatic masterworks.
