Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about goings on in town government.

Quick reminders: During town hall remodeling and new construction, the town offices are in their temporary location at the North Fire Station. Town and committee meetings are being held at the Ellison Bay Community Center. Please check the calendar on the town Web Site for times and possible location changes. With the exception of posted closed sessions all meeting are open to the public.

• Town Board meetings return to their regular schedule of first and third Wednesdays in October. Committees have been asked to schedule their meetings on set dates for consistency. As those dates are established they will be posted on the monthly calendars.

• On the recommendation of the Plan Commission, the Town Board approved the Conditional Use Permit for Magnetic North LLC apple pressing, fermentation, bottling and tasting. The business would be located at 1240 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay. Also recommended to the Town Board was approval of the Zip Line Course and Launch Platform at the Wagon Trail Resort.

• On Monday, October 12 at 6 pm the Plan Commission and the Town Board will hold a joint session to receive input from residents regarding the Town Zoning Map and the Door County Comprehensive Plan Map. Mariah Goode of the Door County Planning Department will be in attendance as well Mark Walter from the Bay Lake Regional Planning Commission. The Town Board and Plan Commission encourage those who have questions or concerns about land use in Liberty Grove to attend and speak at this meeting.

• On Friday, September 25 the Board, Bud Kalms and the Town Hall Building Committee met with Mike Till to review options for public access, as well as handicap access to the Town Hall. It was decided to create a drop off and pick up area with easy access to the Town Hall.

• Janet Johnson has made arrangements with Julie Felhofer to visit the town offices every quarter starting on October 14 from 10 am – 2 pm. Felhofer is with the USDA Rural Development Office, which offers loans and grants on building projects that make homes more energy efficient and safe. Loans and grants are based on income, assets, age and various deductions residents can take against their income. • It has been suggested by a town resident to establish a “Going Green” Committee to investigate how the town can assist, educate and lead the way on becoming more “green” in our approach to everyday life. Anyone interested in participating on this committee or who believes this would be beneficial should contact the town.
