Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about goings on in town government.

Quick reminders: During town hall remodeling and new construction, the town offices are in their temporary location at the North Fire Station. Town and committee meetings are being held at the Ellison Bay Community Center. Please check the calendar on the town Web Site for times and possible location changes. With the exception of posted closed sessions all meeting are open to the public.

Town Board meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Committees have been asked to schedule their meetings on set dates for consistency. As those dates are established they will be posted on the monthly calendars.

• The Highway Committee did a walk-through with engineer Mike Le Febre of GRAEF to go over suggested improvements on the angle of Water’s End Road as it intersects with Highway 42 at the SW corner. The next steps in a plan for development of a sidewalk and crosswalks from Hill to Water’s End Road on the east side of Highway 42 were also reviewed. The need to determine the most cost effective configuration vs. safety for motorists, vehicle parking, bicycles, pedestrians and storm water issues are all part of the mix.

• The town’s newly constructed and formatted Web site, http://www.libertygrove.org, is functioning. The site includes several images of the town’s features, an up-to-date calendar of meetings, agendas, minutes and information about all of the town’s activities, facilities, commissions and committees. Additional in-depth information is being added regularly.

• The Budget Hearing that was scheduled for November 11 will now occur on Monday, November 16 at 6 pm to allow additional time for committees to complete their work. It will take place at the Ellison Bay Community Center. Citizens are encouraged to attend the Budget Hearing. Please contact the Town Offices for additional information.

• A meeting for informational purposes only was held on October 27 between the Liberty Grove Health, Safety and Welfare Committee and the Gibraltar Plan Commission to discuss long range plans as they relate to wastewater, protection of fresh water resources, and storm water in rural towns. Consideration of an intergovernmental relationship may be discussed to achieve the goals as presented in a more efficient and cooperative manner.

• The town is waiting for communication from the Postal Department regarding the Ellison Bay Post Office remodeling. Bud is waiting for the appropriate paper work to arrive and be reviewed.
