Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• A Class A liquor license has been approved and issued to Island Orchard Cider, LLC. The business which will produce hard cider will open this spring in the former Birch Branch building in Ellison Bay.

• Across the street the Ellison Bay Post Office renovation is on schedule and nearing completion. The anticipated move into the building will be over Presidents’ Day weekend. The town has sent a check to a company located in Canada, which makes the signs for the Postal Service. The signage, as required by the Postal Service, was part of the renovation contract.

• A property tax refund has been approved for the Christian Catholic Church of Ellison Bay for the property it acquired in 2009. The property has exempt status under Wisconsin Statutes and was inadvertently placed on the 2010 tax bill.

• At the request of the Town Board a text amendment was approved by the county which will allow the proposed parking lot at the Garrett Bay Launch site. Two proposals are before the town for the parking area and access road. Both leave the area in a very natural state with the removal of as few trees/vegetation as possible. The parking area will not be paved so to allow natural drainage.

• Dorschner Assessment Services, Inc., will be doing a revaluation of the town this year. The town assessment records will be brought to values at or near 100 percent of fair market value as required by State Statutes.

• The Bike Path Steering Committee is expected to send its recommendations to the Town Board for consideration/approval in February.

• The town office will be open from 4 – 6 pm on Monday, Jan. 31 for Property Tax Collection.
