Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Bike Path Steering Committee is nearing completion of its project. The proposed bicycle routes through the town will be presented to the town board for its approval early next year.

• Supervisor Forkert and Office Assistant Janet Johnson report that Frontier Communications is gathering data on the telephones lines and services. It is a company that services rural areas, and they anticipate they will able to provide high-speed internet services to northern Door County through the telephone lines. While no fixed date has been established it is hoped this will occur in 2011. If you are experiencing static on your phone lines please contact Frontier, as this will assist them in their gathering data.

• A reminder that a survey was sent out with the tax bills regarding internet services in the town. A link is also available to the survey on the town website.

• The town board has adopted two new ordinances. One dealing with damage to public property and the other dealing with the use of public ways closed to travel. Information is available at the town office.

• The board tabled the recommendation to proceed with sidewalk installation and roadside improvements between Waters End Road and Hill Road. The board is seeking additional cost estimates for a engineering study of the intersection of Highway 42, Hill Road and Beach Road.

• The board has approved acquisition of the budgeted replacement pick-up truck for Parks and Properties. It also approved the budgeted highway mower replacement.

• Thursday, January 6 has been set as the date for the board and interested town citizens to hear a presentation from the ROM Group. It is a company specializing in business development.

• The town office will be open December 31 from 9 am – noon for those wishing to pay their property taxes.

• On behalf of the board, office and town crew, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
