Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The town has received several responses to the post card that was sent in cooperation with the Top of the Thumb regarding locating or re-locating businesses in Liberty Grove. A family of five from the Milwaukee area has indicated they are planning to move into the area in time for next school year.

• The Waterfront Committee has become part of the Parks and Properties Committee. This is part of consolidating some committees to avoid overlapping of areas.

• The Economic Sustainability Committee has scheduled a presentation by Sam Perlman from the DCEDC on business retention at their next meeting.

• The proposed addendum to the Town Roads Maintenance Policy has been approved by the Town Board. It aims to preserve the unique rural and forested character of designated town roads. The Highway Committee will begin consideration of defining and designating certain roads as Heritage Roads.

• On recommendation from the Annual Town Meeting all committee members will receive per diems for meetings. In the past only board members on committees received a per diem plus Plan Commission members.

• The Town Board has authorized dredging at the Ellison Bay boat launch and marina. It was determined that the low water would prevent some boats from accessing the marina or the bay. It is hoped the dredging can be accomplished prior to the heavy boating season. The Finance Committee will address funding for the project at their next meeting.

• The Town Board approved Liberty Grove Ordinance #1-11 which addresses the placement of urns on burial sites. The ordinance also addressed what family members may be buried on sites when they are not the named owners of the site. Additional information is available from the Town Office.

• A request from Bayview Resort to place a 50-foot breakwall, which would extend into the town riparian rights, was tabled until the May meeting to gather additional information.

• A reminder that the Town Well Testing Program is scheduled for June. Information is available on the town website or at the Town Office. The board is encouraging town seasonal and permanent residents to take advantage of this program.
