Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and 
visitors tidbits of information about goings on in Town Government.

• The Economic Development Committee heard an update from Door County North Coordinator Kathleen Pearson. Membership has increased 30 percent, 15,000 brochures are printed, and strategic planning with the Door County North Board has begun. The organization is receiving $20,000 this year to assist the organization. The money is coming from the town’s portion of room tax collection.

• The committee also heard an update from David Studebaker on Door County Broadband Review. David attended a session that was held at the Sister Bay Liberty Grove Fire Station in Sister Bay.

• The Highway Committee has recommended Blackberry Lane be designated a Heritage Road.

• Initial preparation work has begun on Isle View Road. The road will be paved this summer.

• The Ellison Bay Marina will be dredged after June 1 at the direction of the DNR.

• Parks and Properties Committee has proposed participating in nourishment projects at Sand Bay and Europe Bay beaches. The committee is working with Door County Soil and Water. The cost is projected to be totally funded through grants available for these projects. The committee also considered experimenting with trash pick-up in limited town parks. Supervisor Farber and Michael Mercier presented the recommendation to the committee.

• At the direction of the town board an order was sent to the heirs of John Olson to clean up the properties by July 1. After that date the town will issue citations for ordinance violation.

• Reminder that on June 15, from 9 am until 1 pm, residents of Sister Bay and Liberty Grove may bring in documents to be shredded and household appliances and computers to be recycled. The event will be held at 11161 Old Stage Rd, Sister Bay. There is no charge for the paper shredding and charges for only some household items to be recycled. Additional information is available at the town office.
