Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about the goings on in Town Government.

• Don’t forget that the Town Offices are in their temporary location at the North Fire Station.

• Town and Committee meetings are being held at the Ellison Bay Women’s Club. Please check the calendar on the Town web site (http://libertygrove.org/) for times and possible location changes. Please note the second Board meeting of July will be on the 22.

• A correction from last week, it was the Finance Committee who had the presentation from Janet Johnson on septic funding, not Health, Safety and Welfare. The town also learned that the Wisconsin Fund is another source for those needing assistance with upgrading their septic systems. Property owners who wish to see if they are eligible for this program should contact Chloe Schopf, Administrative Assistant, Door County Sanitarian Department, at 920.746.2308.

• Julie Felhofer from the USDA will be in Liberty Grove on July 29 to meet individually with anyone interested in learning about the programs available from that department for assistance in paying for sanitary system upgrades. Please call Janet at the Town Office (920.854.2934) more information and appointment times. Letters have been sent to those who received notice last year and this year but to date have not upgraded their systems informing them of this program.

• Supervisor Forkert reported that the Information Technology Committee heard a presentation by Dustin Overbeck of Town Web Design, Inc., Sturgeon Bay. The presentation covered Overbeck’s integrated Web site program, which the Committee agreed included all the elements necessary to make the town’s new Web site far more attractive, easier to manage and more user friendly for browsers. Pat Keenan is working on a more attractive Town logo design. The Committee will meet again at 9 am on Thursday, July l7 to consider Keenan’s new design.

• Peter Sauer was sworn in to replace Jeff Johnson on the Utility District #1. Our thanks to Jeff for his service on the Utility District committee. Keith Bridenhagen serves as chair along with fellow members Fred Anderson and Jim Slomski who is the Clerk/Treasurer. (I will be listing various committees and their members in this and upcoming “Notes.” Please thank these people as they put in many hours on the behalf of the town. If anyone is interested in serving on a committee, please contact any supervisor or call the Town Office. We are always looking for help and input on the Committees, and it is an opportunity to serve your community, as well.)

• The Planning Commission is chaired by Supervisor Nancy Goss. Members are Russ Forkert, Jill Karkau, Supervisor Ann Miller, Jim Nelson, Peter Sauer and MaryKay Shumway. They are currently reviewing the Town Comprehensive Plan and when completed will present their recommendations to the Town Board. Please check the Calendar on the Town Web site for meeting times and dates.
