Novel Ideas Hosts Two Book Signing Events

Novel Ideas Bookstore in downtown Baileys Harbor will host two book signing events over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The out-of-state authors will stop in to sign copies of their latest books to hit the market.

Minnesota author James Carl Nelson will sign his new book, The Remains of Company D: A Story of the Great War, at Novel Ideas Bookstore in Baileys Harbor on Friday, November 27 at 2 pm.

Haunted by an ancestor’s tale of near-death on a distant battlefield, Nelson set out in 2003 to hunt down the scraps of memories from his grandfather’s small infantry unit from World War I. Years of travel across the world amazingly led to the retrieval of unpublished personal papers, obscure memoirs and communications from numerous WWI “Doughboys,” as well as original interviews with the descendents of his grandfather’s comrades in arms. The result of this incredible legwork is a rare, intimate eye-level account of the Great War, a compelling tale of battle rooted in new primary sources, and based on one man’s search for his grandfather’s legacy within a horrifying maelstrom that is today poorly understood and nearly forgotten.

James Carl Nelson is a journalist who has worked as a staff writer for The Miami Herald. He is an active member of the Western Front Association, which is devoted to the study of the Great War. He lives in Eden Prairie, MN.

On Saturday, November 28 from 1 – 3 pm, California novelist Sara Kuhns will be signing copies of her first, self-published novel, A Sigh for Life’s Completion.

A literary take on a gothic tale, A Sigh For Life’s Completion addresses alienation and the desire to belong, the hunger for love and purpose in life, and the struggle to do what is right. The tale follows Paul Christian, a seemingly mortal man, with numerous special abilities who functions in this world as a low-key crime novelist and a vampire. Paul leads a cautious and comfortable life – until he falls in love with Lauren.

Kuhns has a gift for dialogue and distinctive imagery; her prose is magical and intoxicating in the ebb and flow of words that bring the reader in to a world of crime and passion, the trials of day to day life under special circumstances, love and heartbreak, and a search for answers and family.

The book signing events are free and open to the public. Novel Ideas is located at 8085 Hwy. 57 in Baileys Harbor. Call 920.839.1300 for more information.
