Nsight Receives Broadband Expansion Grant

Nsight Telservices has been selected to receive a broadband expansion grant through the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) totaling $104,331 to support fiber construction to Washington Island. Nsight partnered with Washington Island Electric Cooperative (WIE) for the grant. The fiber will be added to the replacement submarine electrical cable being installed from Northport Pier to Plum Island, across the island and from Plum Island to Lobdell’s Point on Washington Island.

Nsight will match the PSC grant with a $103,331 contribution to the project costs and the Door County Board of Supervisors will contribute $1,000. “Modern communities need the best communication and broadband networks possible and rural America has always had the short end of the stick. We appreciate Nsight’s efforts to eliminate the digital divide,” said Robert Cornell, manager at WIE, in a letter of support for the grant.

While Nsight Telservices has no current plans to offer residential services on the island, this fiber backbone is available to other providers on the island to connect to and upgrade their services.
