Obituary: Beverly Ann Mickelson

Beverly Ann Mickelson, 63, of Portland, Ore., passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018.

She was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. on December 13, 1954, the daughter of Omer “Mick” and Janet M. (Haines) Mickelson. Bev had a passion for sports throughout her life. She attended Sturgeon Bay High School and was active in sports and was a member of the state-championship track team in 1972. Bev played basketball for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she earned a degree in physical education and health. She returned to coach the Sturgeon Bay High School girls basketball team for two years. Bev loved watching sports and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

In 1983, she received a master’s degree in adult fitness and cardiac rehabilitation from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and then moved to Portland, OR, where she worked in a variety of health and fitness positions. Bev started her own business, Ageless Fitness, and worked as a certified personal trainer. Her interpersonal communication skills allowed her to motivate and inspire so many that she worked with.

Bev’s life went full-circle as she experienced poor health because of Parkinson’s Disease and Paget’s Diesase. In her later life, she enjoyed being outside, gardening, Origami, beading, writing, and photography.

Bev will be missed by her mother, Janet of Sturgeon Bay; two brothers, Paul of Sturgeon Bay and Tim of Green Bay.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Bev died peacefully and left her pain and misery behind.

She donated her body for Parkinson’s research. Memorial services will be held a later date.

Contributions can be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) in Bev’s name.
