Obituary: Andrew Rodney Billerbeck

Andrew, age 29, the son of Angela Jo Billerbeck and stepfather Ronald Bochek, was born November 11, 1986, and died April 2, 2016, due to Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. He attended Sevastopol Elementary and Middle School, and graduated High School in Gladstone, MI where he enjoyed a successful HS career in Drama, Choir, and Barbershop Quartet, which he continued after graduation. Andrew graduated from college in MN with a degree in radio broadcasting then worked at a station in Montana for a time before moving back to the area when his beloved grandpa Rod died. Shortly after, he went to Rockford, Illinois to attend a Christian conference and decided to stay to attend a community church where he could increase his growth in his Christian faith. He grew close to his ‘brother from a different mother’ Malachi Brick, a friend and Pastor who eventually baptized Andrew as an adult. Andrew worked for the Marriott chain with a great group of people that became such good friends until his cancer diagnosis in November of 2015, then moved to Eagle River, WI to be near his mom for his care. He became involved at Abundant Life Church and was blessed by his Rooted church group, where he made more friends who were supportive to Andrew and so helpful during Andrew’s illness.

Andrew was a spiritual guy who put God first in his life. This was never more apparent than during his cancer ordeal, when he remained peaceful and hopeful and unafraid because of his faith. Andrew made many friends through his churches and related activities and his work places. He had hoped to have time to get married, have children, and become a youth pastor, and always had a heart for the elderly, Veterans, and rescue animals. He enjoyed anonymously blessing people he didn’t know by paying their restaurant tab, and promoted and shared the Puppy Rescue Mission/Sasha’s Legacy rescue site for stray dogs from Afghanistan, where they adopted their quirky dog Daisy; she has been a great friend to Andrew while he was sick and she loved him so very much.

All of his life Andrew portrayed his gentleness, with a kind word and time for everyone (maybe not while watching sports events!). He was passionate and knowledgeable about sports, and especially loved the Packers. He was very close to becoming a season ticket holder, after having been on the list since he was 2. Andrew enjoyed all types of music from old rock to Christian to rockabilly and everything in between. He loved his mom, brother Eli and sister Hannah, with whom he had solid friendships, Ron, and the rest of his extended family and friends. He developed a passion for watching eagles, and the loons on the lake across his street in Eagle River, and during his better days spent time kayaking and biking around the lake and downtown to visit people he met.

Andrew is survived by his mother Angela Jo and stepfather Ronald Bochek; his brother Elijah Bochek and sister Hannah Billerbeck; cousins Erika Miller(Bart), Ryan Jacobson (Sheena), Alissa Jacobson (Brian Schwalbach), Victoria Newbauer (Jason), Ashley Leist (Cody); and eight nieces and nephews; aunts Susan Wysong, Sally Jacobson (Steven), Patricia Billerbeck.

He was preceded to Heaven by grandparents Rodney and Eileen Billerbeck; Uncle Rodney Billerbeck, Jr; cousin Jeremy Wysong.

Visitation will be held on Friday April 8, 2016 at the Ephraim Moravian Church from 10-10:45 am with service and lunch to follow at 11 am. Casperson Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers we request that you please take time to visit/take lunch to an elderly person or veteran and let someone know you are there for them; assist your favorite animal rescue; pay something forward in Andrew’s memory, and help someone to find faith whenever you can.
