Ann Marie Bitters, 97, of Menomonee Falls, died peacefully at Cardinal Ridge Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay, on Monday, December 28, 2020.
She was born November 21, 1923 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late John and Stella (Rzatkiewicz) Nowak. On August 30, 1947, Ann and Francis “Fritz” Charles Bitters were united in marriage at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto. The couple shared 68 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death on January 26, 2015. Ann was a loving mother and grandmother and a devoted wife. She enjoyed collecting thimbles and sewing by hand.
Ann will be missed by her children, Mary Fields of El Paso, Texas, Karen (Gene) Haen of Sturgeon Bay, and John Bitters of Madison; grandchildren, Ben (Molly) Haen, Jake (Vikki) Haen, John Moore, Carrie Helmrick, LaTasha (Jason) Abrahim, and LaMetria Terry; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Tony Nowak; and two sisters, Betty Heling and Virginia Nowak-Le Mere.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Nowak; husband, Fritz Bitters; son, James Bitters; and daughter, Linda Benjamin Bitters.
Ann’s life will be honored with a memorial service on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Huehns Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Father Robert Stegmann officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Evergreen Cemetery in Oconto. The service will be livestreamed via the “Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC” Facebook page.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19, a dual-chapel occupancy at the funeral home will be limited to 50 people (25 people per chapel, including family). Those in attendance are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ann’s name to The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, 4047 Chapel Dr., Champion, WI 54229.
