Obituary: Annelise Dolores Hinnenthal

January 4, 1931 ~ December 17, 2022

Annelise D. Hinnenthal died on December 17, 2022 at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Care Center in Sturgeon Bay.

Annelise was born in Northfield, MN on January 4, 1931, to the late Jens Christian and Else (Kristiansen) Jensen.

At six months old the family to move back to Copenhagen, Denmark. The family later moved to a farm north of Copenhagen. After graduating high school she traveled by boat back to America to attend college, docking in New York where she spent the summer with relatives. She attended Carthage College as a foreign exchange student. While attending college she met her future husband. On August 23, 1953 she was united in marriage with Donald Paul Hinnenthal at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin.

To complete her education, she attended local colleges while raising her children and graduated from Carthage College. Upon graduation she took a 12-month course in Medical Technology and received state certification.  She spent her career at the Appleton Medical Center as a medical technologist.

She especially enjoyed her Scandinavian Sewing Club, and she and Don made many trips back to Denmark.  Over ten years they also made many trips to other countries.  After they moved to Clark Lake she joined The Jacksonport Women’s Club.

Annelise was a loving mother, an excellent cook and also highly skilled in many fiber arts, most notably intricately knit sweaters and cross stitch.  She loved to garden, and was seldom without her beloved dog, Heidi.

While quintessentially Danish, she was also very proud of being American. She was always kind and selfless in helping family and friends. People always commented, “She is so sweet”.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald; three children, Glenn (Julie) Hinnenthal of Jacksonport, Carolyn Hinnenthal of Sturgeon Bay, Jane (Don) Meger of Ham Lake, MN; seven grandchildren; Jennifer (Bryan) Hass, Geoffrey Hinnenthal, Michael (Nicole) Hinnenthal, Jakob (Rose) Pflederer, Ethan Pflederer, Gunnar (Stacy) Meger, Erica Meger; and nine great-grandchildren; as well as brother-in-law Thomas (Ann) Hinnenthal and sister-in-law Susan (T.J.) Jorgensen; several nieces and nephews, including niece Jannie (Casper) Gubi; their children Ulrikke and Sebastian of Copenhagen, Denmark. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Joan Hinnenthal, sister and brother-in-law, Gudrun and Helmuth Rasmussen and in-laws William and Katherine Hinnenthal.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, with Rev. Joel Sauer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.

Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
