Obituary: Arnold A. Schleicher

Arnold A. Schleicher, 76, of Egg Harbor, passed away suddenly, early Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016 at his home.

He was born February 11, 1940 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Arthur and Lucy (Wagner) Schleicher. Arnie graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1958 and went on to study agriculture at the UW-Madison. He returned home to help run the family dairy farm and work at the shipyards. On December 12, 1964, Arnie married Diane Ingrid Peterson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse. They were blessed with over 51 years of marriage.

Arnie and Diane eventually bought the family farm from his mother in 1969. Ten years later, the cows and machinery were sold to his brothers, Bill and Fritz. After selling the cows, Arnie worked many years for Egg Harbor Orchards. He was most known throughout the Sevastopol School District for the 25+ years he faithfully drove bus for Sevastopol Schools.  During his time at Sevastopol, he touched many lives with his caring, gentle heart.

Arnie was genuine, hardworking, gentle and sweet, and always had a smile. He was a great father, always attending his children’s sporting events throughout their school years. Arnie’s grandchildren were a delight to him; he loved them so much. He had a passion for gardening, being outside, playing cards (sheephead), and following his sports teams (the Badgers, Brewers, and was a diehard Packer Fan no matter what).  He loved fish boils, brats, putzing around his farm and buildings, and was possessed about grabbing popcorn wherever he could.

Arnie will be deeply missed by his wife, Diane of Egg Harbor; four children, Gregory (Michelle) Schleicher of Sturgeon Bay, Steven Schleicher of Egg Harbor, Annette (Aric) Larson of Tallahassee, FL, Susan (Jeremy) Brueggemann of Oregon, WI; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Spencer, Amanda, Sabrina, Quinten, Morgan, Audry, Drew, Stevie; two brothers, Darrel Schleicher of Sheboygan Falls, Bill (Jean) Schleicher of Egg Harbor; three sisters, Kathy Seiler of Appleton, Joy Schleicher of Merrill, Mary (Gary) Weber of De Pere; two sisters-in-law, Lois Schleicher of Algoma, Judy Schleicher of Egg Harbor; many nieces; nephews; and we can’t forget his little Chihuahua companion, Peanut.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James, Julian; niece, Renee Hildreth; and his little buddy (pet Chihuahua), Chico.

Funeral services were heldSunday, May 29, 2016 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindeman officiating. Arnie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the funeral.

Family and friends may call from from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church on Sunday from 12:00 noon until the time of services.
