Obituary: Barbara Joyce (Markert) Hasenjager

December 21, 1932 ~ October 11, 2021

Barbara Joyce Hasenjager, 88, of the Town of Sevastopol, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, October 11, 2021.

She was born December 21, 1932 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Gustave Adolph and Anna Isabel (Larsen) Markert. Barb graduated from Sevastopol High School with the Class of 1951. She worked as a secretary for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Agriculture Extension Office in Sturgeon Bay for six years. On June 14, 1952, Barb and Donald John Hasenjager were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valmy. The couple owned and operated their own dairy farm for over 40 years. They were members of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport, where Barb volunteered with the Ladies Aid Group, Altar Guild, and taught Sunday School. She also volunteered at the Dorchester (now Golden LivingCenter) and the Miller Art Center. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing two-handed sheepshead with Don after lunch, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her beloved family.

Barb will be missed by her husband of 69 years, Don; children, David (Cindy Jean) Hasenjager, Cindy (Bill) Banks, and Mark (Gloria) Hasenjager; grandchildren, Kristen (Mike) Dietz and Kelly Hasenjager; great-grandchildren, Brian Hasenjager, Sophia Dietz, and Kara Dietz; in-laws, Audrey Hasenjager, June Kruetter, Elaine (Donald) Neinas, Glenn (Penny) Hasenjager, Leon (Rosemary) Hasenjager, Linda (Kerry) Moore, and Clyde (Linda) Hasenjager; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Isabel Markert; infant son, Brian Hasenjager; sisters, Irene Graff and Leona Nowak; sisters-in-law, Anita Hasenjager and Audrey Neinas; and brothers-in-law, Roy Graff, Francis Nowak, Clyde Kruetter, and Alan Hasenjager.

Barb’s life will be honored with a funeral service on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
