September 23, 1947 ~ August 2, 2023
Barry Lee Vandertie, 75, formerly of Brussels, died in Algoma on August 2, 2023.
When asked a couple of years ago what he wanted his obituary to say, Barry replied “He died. That’s all they need to know.” We will expand a little…
Barry was born in the Belgian brick house on the corner in downtown Brussels to Wilferd and Emily Vandertie on Sept. 23, 1947. He graduated from Southern Door High School in 1965 and UW Madison Farm Short-course. He owned Barry’s Track & Trail and Door County Harley Davidson dealership in Sturgeon Bay.
For the past 37 years he lived in Sayner, WI in his late grandparent’s cottage where he started a landscape business and later Blue Eagle Trikes. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his bike on long trips, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, playing a variety of musical instruments and of course riding his Harleys.
Barry is survived by his brother Dan (Julie) Vandertie, his sisters Debbie (Frank) Dahms and Valerie (Bob) Lukes, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Dwayne, sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Clayton Baudhuin, and nephew Brian Baudhuin.
We are thankful for the many good friends who stayed in touch and visited with Barry. We are also thankful for the good care he received as his Parkinson’s disease progressed, and for the wonderful care at Waterfall Health in Algoma.
Per Barry’s request there will be no services.
