Obituary: Bette J. Phillips

Bette J. Phillips, Green Bay, passed away March 3, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness. She was born April 22, 1939 in Baileys Harbor to Edward and Myrtle (Albertson) Appel Sr.
Bette married Robert Phillips in Algoma on July 28, 1962. The couple moved to Milwaukee for 2 years were Bette taught at a school. They then moved to Alaska for many years where Bette continued her teaching career in Juneau. They moved back to the Algoma area were Bette was a substitute teacher for schools in the surrounding area. After Robert passed away, Bette moved to Green Bay and was teaching at Syble Hopp School for the past 20 years. Bette enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She did many volunteer jobs including St. John’s Homeless Shelter and the Michah Center. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Green Bay.
Bette is survived by her son Brian Phillips and daughter Dawn Phillips both of Green Bay; four grandchildren Ameena, Brianna, Cayleigh and Alex, one great granddaughter Rylie; her five siblings William (Cheryl) Appel, Sister Bay; Robert (Joan) Appel, Ellison Bay; Tina Appel, Algoma; Edward (Holly) Appel Jr., Norfolk, VA; and IdaKay (Greg) Orsted, Baileys Harbor; brother-in-law Tom Schmidt, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, three sisters, Sandra Schmidt, Cindi Benson and infant Anna Marie.

A service was held at First United Methodist Church in Green Bay on March 8. Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, Algoma. The SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, assisted the family with arrangements. Sign the online guest book at www.schinderle.com
