Obituary: Betty A. Clark Hanish

Betty A. Clark Hanish, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc, was called home to Heaven on Friday, April 20, 2018 while at Anna’s Health Care CBRF surrounded by her family.

She was born December 16, 1926 in Menominee, Mich, the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Haines) LeBoeuf. Her mother, Anna, died when Betty was a junior in high school. Betty graduated from Menominee High School in 1944.

Following high school, Betty met her husband, Harry Clark, while both were employed at Montgomery Wards. On October 7, 1947, they married at St. Ann’s Church in Menominee, MI. Betty worked as a seamstress for 30 years and was known for her creative talent. In 1976 they moved to Daggett, MI to enjoy their retirement. They spent 40 wonderful years together until Harry’s death on September 20, 1987.

After Harry’s death she moved to Sturgeon Bay and began her 15-year employment with Bay Pharmacy working with her family. On September 15, 1994, she was blessed again and married Walter Hanish in Stephenson, Mich. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2016

Betty lived an enriched and faithful life incorporating strong Catholic Values in her daily living. She was a joy to be around with her optimistic view and humorous attitude. If you had the privilege of knowing her you probably reaped the rewards of her fabulous baking. She inherited her sewing talents from her gifted mother. Betty enjoyed crafting everything; knitting, crocheting, leatherwork, creating afghans for many including the wounded warrior project. Betty loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, swimming, trailbike riding, snowmobiling, fishing, traveling and gardening. She and Harry had to build special shelving to keep up with all the canning of her gardening vegetables. She was a good athlete enjoying golfing, bowling and camping with the family.

Her family mourning her loss includes her three daughters, Donna (Cliff) Hayes, Kathy (Greg) Rohde, both of Green Bay, and Bobbie Walker of Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren, Christi (Rob) Vincevineus of Sheboygan, Darren (Tricia) Mercier of Iron River, MI, Brandon (Angela) Rohde of Green Bay, Scott (Jillian) Walker of Sturgeon Bay; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step-children, Walter (Kris) Hanish of Gulf Shores, AL and Peggy (Allan) Isaac of Lompoc, CA; five step-grandchildren, Matthew (Jeanne) Hanish, Martin (Tracy) Hanish, and Melissa (Christopher) Baxter, all of MN, Robert (Sandra) Pankonin of AZ, Jonathan Pankonin of CA; 17 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Valeria LeBoeuf of Menomonee, MI; and many loving nieces and nephew and their families.

Family members preceding her in death include her parents, Oscar and Anna LeBoeuf; husbands, Harry Clark, Walter Hanish; grandson, Carl Mercier, Jr.; five brothers, Valner (Vi), Jack (Sylvia), Gordy (Helen), Richard (Rosemary), and Donald LeBoeuf; and step-mother, Helen Dulak LeBoeuf.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. She will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph Cemetery Columbarium, following the luncheon.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church, Friday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

A memorial for Betty is being established for the Wounded Warrior Project.
