Obituary: Beverly Purves

Beverly Purves, 76, of Sturgeon Bay, died Jan. 13, 2018, after fighting a courageous battle against lung cancer. She was born to Vernon and Cuba Siler Sept. 25, 1941.  After her graduation from high school, she began a career as an airline stewardess for Braniff Airlines and flew on overseas flights out of Travis AFB in California. While she was performing as a stewardess she met and married Captain Bob Purves Oct. 23, 1966. During their 51 years of marriage, they were stationed at many military bases that took them all over the country. Together they raised two wonderful children.

After Bob retired from the Air Force in 1988, they remained in California for eighteen years after which they returned to Bob’s home town in Sturgeon Bay. Beverly lived a life as a perfect wife to Bob and mother to Lori and John.  She was a beautiful Christian woman who was a special role model to everyone who had the good fortune to have known her.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Bob, a son John, a daughter Lori and son-in-law Jim; five grandchildren, Rachel and Nathan Holes, Jeremy Purves; Bryan and Brady Moe.  She is also survived by her brothers, Ron and Alva Siler and their wives Toy and Lee.

A memorial service was conducted at the United Methodist Church in Sturgeon Bay at 11 am on Jan. 20, 2018 with Pastor Dave Leistra officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends immediately following the service at a reception in the church fellowship hall. There will be no visitation prior to the service.  Forbes Funeral Home & Cremations is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials in Beverly’s name be sent to “Back Pack Buddies” c/o Feed and Clothe My People at 204 N. 14th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.   Bob wants to extend a special thank you to the staffs at the Door County Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care given to Beverly.
