Obituary: Carol Catherine (Junion) Volkmann

November 30, 1938 ~ February 18, 2022

Carol Catherine Volkmann, 83, of Sevastopol, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay.

She was born November 30, 1938 in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Harvey Alexander and Frances Rose (Graf) Junion. Carol graduated from Sevastopol High School with the Class of 1956. On June 29, 1957, Kenneth Julius Volkmann and Carol were united in marriage at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute. She was a lifelong member of the church and was involved with the Order of Christian Mothers and the Homemakers Club. Carol cleaned cottages and waitressed at various places throughout Door County, only because she needed some gambling money. She enjoyed reading, watching her Wisconsin sports teams (the Brewers, Badgers, and Packers), gardening with Ken, and canning and freezing from their yearly harvest.

Carol will be missed by her children, Kim (Gary) Schopf, Konnie Gordon, Kris Volkmann, all of Sturgeon Bay, Kirk (Stacey) Volkmann of Valmy, and Keith (Mary) Volkmann of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jake) Peterson, David (Dakotah) Gordon, Tracy (Kevin) Allen, Jill (Josh) Paul, Matthew Gauger, Drew Tanck, Kyle (Amy) Volkmann, Kambria Volkmann, Ella Volkmann, Madilyn Volkmann, and Aleah Volkmann; and great-grandchildren, Clayton, Caleb, and Cole Peterson, Charlotte, Luci, and Abigail Gordon, Sofia, Isaac, and Benjamin Allen, Landon Paul, and Hadley Volkmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Frances Junion; husband, Kenneth Volkmann; son, Kevin Volkmann; brother, Harvey “Sonny” (Regina) Junion Jr.; and sister, Joy Ann Junion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in honor of Carol on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Huehns Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Carol’s name to Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Nursing Facility for the outstanding care and compassion.
