Obituary: Celeste Anne Munson

May 5, 1938 – Jan. 22, 2020

Celeste A. Munson, 81, of Milwaukee, and formerly of Appleton and Sturgeon Bay, died at St. John’s Assisted Living in Milwaukee.

Celeste was born in Rockford, Illinois, to Alfred and Geraldine (Gilbert) Boyer. She graduated from Rockford West High School in 1956. At age 50, she graduated from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. 

Celeste taught dance at Lawrence University in Appleton until moving to Sturgeon Bay. She choreographed many plays and classical ballets at Lawrence, as well as musical theater at Sturgeon Bay High School. Celeste was a talented artist who put her amazing skills to work in many media, including painting numerous murals at churches in Appleton and Sturgeon Bay.

On Jan. 25, 1959, she married Bartley L. Munson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois. He died Dec. 19, 2018. 

She is survived by her three sons, Steve (Kim) Munson of Frederick, Maryland, Jeff (Karen) Munson of Brookfield, and Michael (Loree) Munson of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Kirsten, Derek, Michael, Kai; and a brother, Robert C. Boyer of Indianapolis, Indiana.
