Obituary: Charles Johnson

Charles (Chuck) Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully after a short stay at Scandia Care Center, Sister Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Elaine and brother Dr. Kenneth Johnson.

Chuck graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana in architecture. Shortly after, he was drafted into the army where he served 18 months in Korea with the 98th Engineers in aerial photography. Upon his return, he opened his own architectural office in La Grange, Illinois, specializing in churches. His color designs and sketches led to requests by clients for watercolor paintings for their own use. As interest grew, his watercolors were shown in many juried shows and are now represented in private and institutional collections throughout the country.

Chuck and his wife, Marilyn, retired to Door County in 1996 in a home he designed which began with an existing log house built in 1840, plus several additions. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April. They have two children, Christopher Johnson and Sandra Berke, as well as granddaughter, Dr. Allison Berke.

A memorial service will be held for Chuck at Shepherd of the Bay Church in Ellison Bay on Saturday, December 9, at 11 a.m.   A time for food and fellowship will follow the service.

The family requests donating to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
