Obituary: Daniel Romain Brauer

Daniel BrauerDaniel Romain Brauer, 79, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away while enjoying his lifetime passion of hunting on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

He was born in Jacksonport to the late William and Luella (Zirbel) Brauer on February 26, 1936. Dan was a graduate of Saints Peter and Paul School and Sevastopol High School. He was employed as a mechanic with Felhofer Brothers for many years and later opened Brauer Mobil gas station on the West Side for nine years. Dan also worked with Bissen Blacktop, Wiegand’s Amoco Service Station and Bay Ship until his retirement. He was a member of Boilermaker Union Local 449.

On July 4, 1958, Dan married Elizabeth Rock at St. Mary Catholic Church in Algoma. They enjoyed taking trips to Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, Florida, Cape Cod, and Alaska. His pride and joy was his garden. If Dan wasn’t in his garden, he could be found in the woods hunting or on the water fishing.

Dan is survived by his wife, Betty of Sturgeon Bay; sons, Rick (Sandy), Todd (Dee Dee), both of Sturgeon Bay, Paul (Sue) of Green Bay; daughters, Becky (Todd) Claflin, Julie (Keith) Kasbohm, both of Sturgeon Bay; 12 grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Howington, Robyn Brauer, Alex Claflin, Heather (Shawn) Kressin, Shannon (Kris) Wilber, Matt Brauer, Devon Storlie, Allison (Nick) Held, Eric Storlie, Nolan Brauer, Kelsey Brauer, and Keaton Brauer; two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Sophia Held. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Jean Charles, Carol Johnson, Lester (Dora) Brauer; brother-in-law, James (Loretta) Rock; and sister-in-law, Virginia Randerson.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Warren (Marie), Bill Jr. (Sheila), James (Hilda), Larry, Eileen Martin (Lloyd and Hank), brothers-in-law, Leonard Charles, Don Johnson, James Randerson; and sister-in-law, Edith Rock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Bob Stegmann and Fr. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating. Dan will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a parish wake service to be held at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church, Monday morning, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials may be given to Neighbor-to-Neighbor or to Ministry Door County Medical Center in Dan’s memory.
