Obituary: David Allan Kezo

October 22, 1958 ~ October 6, 2020

David Allan Kezo, 61, of the Town of Jacksonport, died Tuesday afternoon, October 6, 2020, while in the comfort of his home with family at his side.

He was born October 22, 1958 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Harold Kenneth Kezo and Esther Helen (Johnson) Kezo. Dave’s parents passed away when he was five, and he was raised by his sister, Rose, and brother, Robert “Bob” and his foster family. He attended Sturgeon Bay High School and eventually earned his GED. Dave was raised Catholic and took classes to join the Lutheran church prior to his marriage to Joan Marie Tanck on October 15, 1988 at her home church of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport.

He drove semi-truck (based out of Door County) for about year before joining the United States Merchant Marines where he initially served as a deckhand then oiler on the Wilfred Sykes (among other ships) for over five years. Later on, Dave worked for Sturgeon Bay Iron and Scrap Metal. He also worked in the shipyards at Bay Shipbuilding Co. in Sturgeon Bay for a short time.

Dave had passion for ham radio and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He will be missed by his wife, Joan, with whom he was blessed with nearly 32 years of marriage; children, Jesse Parratta of Wausau, Inga Parratta of Green Bay, Jeremiah “JJ” Parratta of Wausau, and Sheena Parratta-Carlisle of Bessemer, MI, and Amanda Witalison (Scott Nellis) of Sturgeon Bay, Joseph Kezo, and Roy (Noel) Kezo, both of the Town of Jacksonport; grandchildren, LaKeshia, Angelo, Walter, Lucca, and Annabelle, Owin and Madison, Ethan, Isaac, Taylor, Dominic, Micah, and Alanna; siblings, Rose Ullman, Robert “Bob” (Karol) Kezo, both of Sturgeon Bay, William “Bill” (Sue) Kezo of Algoma, and Lynn Hermes of Sturgeon Bay; mother-in-law, Marietta Tanck of Egg Harbor; sisters-in-law, Joy Kezo of Sturgeon Bay, Sandy (Darrel) Zak of Baileys Harbor, Mary (Mark) Richard of Egg Harbor, and Teresa (Todd) Roalkvan of Institute; aunt, Veronica Vertz of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Erik Witalison; brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Kezo; siblings-in-law, Glenard “Glen” Ullman, Jr., John “Jack” Hermes; uncle, Julius Vertz; niece, April Kezo; and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until sharing of memories at 12:30 p.m.

Those in attendance of Dave’s services are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated for his family.
