Obituary: David Townley Debenham

David Townley Debenham, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin passed away at home June 19, 2016.

He was born July 31, 1941, the son of Roger and Margaret Debenham, and raised in Wilmette, IL. It was there that he spent many summers lifeguarding on the shores of Lake Michigan. He graduated from New Trier High School Class of 1959 and Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1963 with a B.A. in Economics. From 1963 to 1969, he served his country proudly in the Illinois Army National Guard. In 1965 he graduated from the Coastal School of Deep Sea Diving in California before opening North Central Suzuki in Antioch IL with his brother Hunter. On October 11, 1969, he married Barbara Heiden in Des Plaines, IL. They raised their son, David, on the shores of Loon Lake in Antioch where they created many wonderful memories. In 1971, he and his brother opened Maico Midwest, Debenham Imports also in Antioch. In 1980 he attended an Outward Bound course in the Pacific Northwest. In 1983 he became a Certified Financial Advisor and worked for Waddell and Reed in Northern Illinois before retiring in Door County.

Survivors include wife Barbara June, son David Andrew and daughter-in- law Sarah Elizabeth (nee Farlow). Beloved Granddaughters Ella Rose and Claire Elizabeth of Delmar Maryland. Sister, Margaret (Maud) Galloway, brother-in- law Tracy, Brother Peter Debenham, Sister-in-law Karen Debenham. Nephews Chad (Sarah) Galloway, Casey Galloway (Maria), Brandon Debenham . Nieces Mera Debenham, Cody Galloway-Cagle (Courtney), Great Nephew Oliver Cagle, all of Colorado. Special brother-in- law Paul Heiden of Illinois and three special cousins Mary Ann, Marge and Jeanie.

Preceded in death by father, Roger Hamilton Debenham, mother Margaret (Peg) Debenham, brother Roger Hunter Debenham, brother-in- law Pete Heiden.

A memorial service will be held for David at Hope United Church of Christ in Sturgeon Bay on Wednesday, August 24 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Door County Land Trust, Unity Hospice, Hope United Church of Christ.
