Obituary: Dean E. Dickinson

April 12, 1952 ~ January 22, 2021

Dean Elton Dickinson, 68, of the Town of Sevastopol, died January 22, 2021 at his home, following a recent illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay, born April 12, 1952, the son of Elton Lester Dickinson and Hazel Violet (Mickelson) Dickinson. Dean grew up attending Cherry School and West Side School and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1970 and went to work in the shipyards at Bay Shipbuilding Co., following in the footsteps of his father. In 1987, Dean graduated from the Marine Drafting program at Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College. He belonged to the Boilermakers Union Local 449 and worked for (now Fincantieri) Bay Ship for over 48 years as a foreman, tac welder, and steelworker among other job efforts. Dean worked for Peterson Builders Inc. (PBI) for a short time and also R. A. Stearns (naval architects) in marine drafting, which he truly enjoyed.

He was a former member of the Sturgeon Bay Jaycees and continued helping with bingo even after his membership. Those who knew Dean in town, knew how much he enjoyed visiting and socializing with others. He liked going out to eat at (the former) Corner Café, Greystone Castle, Sonny’s, and Culver’s, just to name a few of his favorites. Years back, Dean could be found skating at (the former) roller rink. He remained a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church all throughout his life and served as an usher, there.

Dean will be missed by his two sisters, Judy Dickinson of Green Bay and Joan (George) Draeb of the Town of Sevastopol; niece and nephew, Cheryl (David) Ehlers of Kimberly and Bill (friend, Rose Teskie) Draeb of Green Bay; great-nephews, Matthew and Michael Ehlers; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and other relatives.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 108 W. Maple St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joel Sauer officiating. Dean will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery.

Due to (pandemic) gathering limitations, church sanctuary occupancy will be limited to 50 people (including family) for both, the visitation and funeral. Those in attendance are to wear facemasks and maintain social distancing.

The funeral service will be LIVESTREAMED at 1:00 p.m. via the “Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC” Facebook page. Those anticipating viewing the service online are encouraged to “Like” the funeral home Facebook page any time prior to the funeral or go to the webpage (www.facebook.com/HuehnsFuneralHome) to receive notification of the live broadcast. If livestreaming is not possible, the service recording will be uploaded to the funeral home Facebook (web)page within a day.
