Obituary: Diane D. Templeton

March 7, 1928 – Feb. 26, 2016

Diane was born on March 7, 1928 in Bushnell, Illinois to parents Lillian and Emmons Norcross. The family moved to Knoxville, Iowa when she was 5 and later to Des Moines at the age of 14. During the summers of the great depression she enjoyed swimming and was on the speed swimming team at North High School. After graduating from high school, she attended Weslyan College at Mt Pleasant, then Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Nebraska, and later on completed her degree in Education at Drake University. After teaching at Willard Grade School for two years, she taught 8th grade economics at Franklin Jr. High School and Meredith Middle School until retiring at the age of 64. Diane really enjoyed teaching and was loved and respected by her students. In 1989-1990, she received teacher of the year award for entire state of Iowa.

After spending many summers on vacation in Door County, she decided to move to Sister Bay in 2001. She attended First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for about 5 years. She passed away on February 26th while living at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She is survived by her daughter Camie (Ed) Ackerman, grandsons Camden and Jay Ackerman, son Mark Moran and sister Susan Norcross. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Camden Moran, and her brother Barry Norcross. There will be a memorial service in Des Moines, Iowa in late April to early May.
