Obituary: Donald C. Friex

Donald C. Friex, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, died Dec. 28, 2017 at Door County Medical Center.  He was born Dec. 7, 1931 in Sturgeon Bay to Clement and Laura (DeBaker) Friex. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong resident of Door County.

On Sept. 13, 1958 he married Cleda Jean Columb in Brussels.  He and Jean farmed in the Town of Nasewaupee for many years.  His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his horses and dogs.

Survivors include his wife Jean, a daughter Cathy (Thad) Ash, Sturgeon Bay; 2 grandchildren Ashley (Erik) Cordier, DePere, and Aaron (Ashlianne) Ash, Little Chute and 2 great-grandbabies to arrive in 2018; his sister Marion Klapatch, Sturgeon Bay; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Ken Seigworth, Marjorie Columb, Dale and Pat Columb.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ceil May, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Bernadine Massart, Darrell Columb, Pat Seigworth, Delbert Klapatch and Virgil May.

Funeral services were held Jan. 2, 2018 at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood with the Rev. Carl Schmitt and the Rev. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
