Obituary: Donald Ervin Franke

Donald Ervin Franke, 80, Fish Creek, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, February 8, 2018.

Don was born December 24, 1937 to the late Ervin Franke and Evelyn (Bhirdo) Franke. He married Anita Johnson on October 7, 1961. Survivors include wife Anita, children Michele (Tom), Peter (Michelle), Mark (Connie), and Rhea; grandchildren Kala (Chris and daughter Sayde), Cory (Cody), Austin, Adam, William and Paige; sister Elizabeth (Louis) Sohns, sister-in-law Dawn (William) Smith, nieces and nephews.

He cherished spending time with his loving family. His recent 80th Birthday celebration included 80 balloons and fireworks display from his grandchildren. Family gatherings always included storytelling, games, card playing and great food.

Don worked as a farmer, pipefitter, and machine operator. His love of the outdoors included his yard work, gardening, hunting and wood making. After retiring, he enjoyed making various items from metal and wood. He had a talent for looking at a picture and recreating it, often making improvements. He made his own pig roaster, and used it for many special gatherings with family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Franke and sister-in-law Darlene Franke.

A celebration of life officiated by close family friend, Pastor Gary Scharrig, will be held at Zion Methodist Church, County F, Fish Creek, on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 am. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Blossomburg Cemetery at a later date.
