Obituary: Douglas Edward Hudon

Douglas E. Hudon, 75, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home in Sturgeon Bay, Friday morning, May 11, 2018.

He was born January 10, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Sophie (Turay) Bacon. Doug graduated from Marinette Catholic Central High School in 1961 before attending St. Louis University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and University of Wisconsin-Marinette.

On September 5, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Marcek at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marinette. Doug worked as an Engineer for Globe Union (now Johnson Controls) in Milwaukee and Fort Dodge, IA, the Manitowoc Company, Kohler Company, and Therma-Tron-X in Sturgeon Bay as a Project Engineer for 22 years, retiring in 2010.

Doug was an avid aircraft enthusiast and visited EAA Air Adventure for decades with family members. Doug’s other great passion was music, whether playing in bands in his younger years, to home building stereo systems, to attending concerts and even making favorite mix tapes for his daughters.

Doug was a voracious reader of various genres and knew a lot about a lot. He had a dry and quirky sense of humor that only those closest to him truly understood. He loved B-rated sci-fi movies. He was fascinated by trains, learning to ‘hop’ them during his childhood while living in Crivitz. Doug toiled in the yard and was an expert in remodeling and family home projects. Doug loved his beloved pet, ‘Max the Dog’, who is now lost without him. Doug loved his grandchildren, and attending their sporting and school events gave him his greatest pleasure. Doug was selfless and generously gave of his time and talents to assist friends, neighbors, and strangers in need.

He will be deeply missed by his dear wife, Mary, his best friend for nearly 60 years; daughters, Lisa (Joseph) Wall of Park City, UT; Laura (Brian) Peterson of Sturgeon Bay; three grandchildren, Nora and Sara Wall, and Jack Peterson; three half-sisters, Cindy (Tim) Fischer, Jean (Paul) Siebers, Mary (Nathan) Zirngible, and one half-brother, Dale (Peggy) Bacon; brother-in-law, James (Connie) Marcek; nieces, Kimberly (Craig) Smurawa, Kelly (Jeff) Lebick; and nephew, Kevin Marcek.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Hudon; father, Melvin Bacon; and stepparents, Edgar Hudon and Dorothy Bacon. Also preceding him in death were his dear mother and father-in-law, Edmere and Emil Marcek.

Doug was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory and will be used for local charities.
